What is a Backflow Device…and Why do I need it Tested?

If you are a homeowner in the Chattanooga area you should know about the importance of a backflow device.  A backflow device is sometimes known as an RPZ valve.  What does RPZ stand for?  It means Reduced Pressure Zone.  This device is installed onto your plumbing system to protect your drinking water and the city water supply from contaminants.

In our area RPZ valves are required when a house or building is equipped with an irrigation system.  If there is a water leak in the house, house water service break, a break in the city water main, hydrant flushing, or excessive hydrant use due to an area fire, the water pressure in the house or city water mains can drop lower than the water pressure in the systems.

At All Home Plumbing we specialize in backflow testing.  Fortunately for you, we have a master plumber that is a certified backflow technician and has over two decades of experience.  RPZ testing is essential whether it is an emergency or not, it eventually will be!  Call us today at (423) 598-1466.  We specialize in plumbing problems throughout the Chattanooga area.

When is Repiping a House Necessary?

In hilly Chattanooga and the surrounding area, a leak in one of your pipes can be fixed with a simple repair at a single section of your plumbing system.  If the problem is more serious however, it might require all of the pipes in your home to be replaced.  This process is known as repiping a house.

Here are some signs that it is time to repipe –

1.  The age of your home…especially if it is 50 years old or older.
2.  Low pressure.
3.  The color…if your water is red or brown.
4.  More than one leaking pipe.

It may be time to call in the repiping professionals at All Home Plumbing.  We would like to invite you to visit our brand-new website at www.allhomeplumbing.com.  This will show you the myriad of plumbing services that we offer.  Whenever you have a plumbing emergency in the Chattanooga area please give us a call right away at (423) 598-1466.
