Once a Year…That’s the Law.

No matter where you set up shop in the Chattanooga area you MUST have a backflow test done on your premises every year…and then certified!  The backflow testing process typically takes about 20 – 30 minutes to complete, if there are no repairs that need to be made.  So, if all is well, it should be a rather painless process.

Why is it so important?  Well, drinking water flows through pressurized water taps from the source to your tap.  It generally flows in one direction but on some occasions, it may flow in the opposite direction, or what is known as “backflow”.  If it runs backward, then it is not suitable for drinking.

To book your annual backflow test call the Chattanooga plumbing experts at All Home Plumbing.  Look for that friendly reminder that you will get from your city.  It will be sent with a backflow test report form a month before it is due.  The next step is easy.  Just call (423) 598-1466 to book your backflow test with All Home Plumbing of Chattanooga.

The Speed of a Jet.

Rather impressive, isn’t it?  Just what is sewer jetting?  When your plumbing that is acting up you find yourself dealing with a seemingly endless string of clogs.   Do you live in an older home in the Chattanooga area with an aging plumbing system?  If only there were some way to restore your pipes and keep them clean into the future. Luckily, we have the technology.

That Good ‘Ol Reliable Plunger.

A plunger might seem basic, but it may still be the best way to unclog your toilet!  Every household should not be without one, and preferably a plunger with a flange, as these work the best to unclog toilets.  Flat plungers actually work better for drains and showers if you are trying to unclog one of them.

If that fails, then the fun stuff begins –

1.  Baking soda and vinegar…pee yew!
2.  A wet/dry vac.  Don’t try this with a regular vacuum.
3.  Chemicals.  They can damage plumbing and create burns.
4.  Call a plumber.  Still the most reliable and easiest way to unclog a stubborn toilet.

Unclogging a pesky toilet in your Chattanooga area home should be an easy project, but it rarely is…plus it can grow worse over time if you just “plunge” it.  The sure, long term solution is to call the toilet repair experts in the Chattanooga area.  That would be All Home Plumbing.  Don’t become knee-deep in heaven knows what!  Call (423) 598-1466.

When Galvanized Pipes Grow Old.

Over time it is inevitable…your galvanized pipes are old and corroding.  Suddenly rust is blocking off the pipes, reducing your water pressure and even contaminating the water itself.  If you’re not careful, corroded pipes can lead to leaks, which then means mold, rot and water damage around your home!

Here are some steps to follow in having your home repiped –

1.  Are you having both hot and cold water pipes replaced?
2.  Be prepared to be deprived of water in your home for up to a week.
3.  Once the job is done the pipes need to be inspected for proper installation.
4.  Large sections of walls will probably need to be replaced.

Repiping is complicated and necessary and should be trusted to a plumbing professional.  The right team for the job in the Chattanooga area is All Home Plumbing.  They have served the area’s plumbing needs for well over a decade.  For that important repiping job call All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466.

What is that Small Tank Hanging off of my Water Heater.

Here is what that is.  It is an expansion tank installed on the water supply pipe to the water heater.  The purpose of it is to deal with the thermal expansion of water as it heats up in the water heater.  It prevents water pressure from getting too high.  IF water pressure gets high enough it can damage valves in plumbing fixtures, joints in supply pipes and even the water heater itself.

Did you know that Thermal expansion always occurs in water heaters?  Like most substances in nature, water expands as it is heated.  This happens over and over every day inside of your water heater after some hot water has been used in the house, and cold water flowing into the water heater is heated.

We wanted you to know more about the purpose of this invaluable appliance sitting all alone (and working hard) in your garage.  At All Home Plumbing we know all about water heaters in the Chattanooga area.  Eventually they need to be repaired or even replaced.  When that time comes call us at All Home Plumbing.  That’s (423) 598-1466.

How Much Rain do we get Around Here?

Have you thought much about that?  The national average for cities across America is 38 inches per year.  Here in Chattanooga we get about 51 inches of rain per year on average.  Would you have thought that?  What it boils down to is…when it rains at a spirited pace around here can your home’s sump pump handle it?  At All Home Plumbing we want to be sure that it can.

Here are some signs to look for –

1.  Simply old age…they are made to last about a decade
2.  The sump pit has dried up…it may not be properly hooked up
3.  It’s clogged slowing it down or stopping it altogether
4.  It makes a lot more noise than it used to

Now, you may not think that September is the optimum time to replace your home’s sump pump.  Would you rather wait until the spring rains cause damage?  We didn’t think so!  If your sump pump has been cranking along for more than a decade and you live in the Chattanooga area call us at (423) 598-1466.  We are All Home Plumbing.

How Does Home Repiping Work?

Homes in the Chattanooga area that were built before 1970 often have pipes made of outdated material, such as galvanized steel.  What happens is that these types of pipes tend to corrode after 40-50 years of service.  If you’ve already started to notice an increase in leak problems, then you are probably in need of repiping.

How is whole-house repiping done?  Repiping sounds like a big job, and it is!  To precisely locate the pipes makes one stage easier, which is excavating to reach the old pipes with as little disruption to building material as possible.  To access pipes down in the floors, plumbers will approach from the ceiling below to avoid having to pull up floorboards.

It is a necessary process that requires plumbers who have years of repiping experience.  In Chattanooga those plumbers are a part of the team representing All Home Plumbing.  They are the Chattanooga experts at repiping, fixing leaky faucets, or clogged toilets, etc.  Just give All Home Plumbing a call anytime at (423) 598-1466.

What Causes Backflow?

Well, it could be Mexican food!  Sorry, we are referring to backflow in your plumbing.  Actually, there are two main causes for backflow.  They are 1.) back pressure and 2.) back siphonage.  Back pressure is when water is forced to flow in the opposite direction.  Back siphonage is when the pressure in the water supply becomes smaller than the pressure in the plumbing system itself.

An air gap may be used to fix the problem.  A very simple method of prevention is to create an air gap below the water outlet and right above the top potential water level in the appliance. This method is commonly used with sinks. The air gap ensures that contaminated water can’t be drawn back into the water supply.

A plumber who has fixed backflow problems hundreds of times is the right answer to your backflow dilemma.  When backflow becomes the bane of your existence in the Chattanooga area call All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466.  They will fix the problem quickly and completely…guaranteed!

Help…I’m Ankle-Deep in Water!

Water dreams are common, and according to dream analysts, they carry deep, primal significance.  Some of the worst nightmares that no one would wish to experience at any time would be flushing your toilet and have it overflow on the floor!  Also, seeing one of your sinks not emptying properly is at least annoying.

Here are some signs of drain blockage –

1.  Slow, or completely failed draining
2.  Foul odors…NO, it’s NOT the dog!
3.  Gurgling sounds…not grandpa’s snoring
4.  The water level increases each time you flush

It’s really not brain surgery.  You can live in denial until the problem becomes unwieldy, or you can tackle it in the early stages.  Call the drain cleaning professionals in the Chattanooga area.  That’s All Home Plumbing serving the greater Chattanooga area.  At the very first sign of a clogged drain, call All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466.

Look at This Water Bill!

How many home and business owners in the Chattanooga area have experienced that shock?  The monthly water bill is much higher than previously.  If you suspect that your water pipes are leaking because your water bill has gone through the roof there are several steps that can be taken to repair the damage.

Here are some of them –

1.  The exact spot of the leak must be detected.
2.  Once it is found, turn off the main water valve.
3.  Dig a trench around the area that the leak was found.
4.  Check for any wear and tear near the leak.

There are a few other steps that should be taken to effectively repair the leak once and for all.  We know what to do when there is a water leak on your property.  We are All Home Plumbing and it means just that…plumbing repair for all of your home and around it.  Call us at All Home Plumbing…Chattanooga’s plumbing company at (423) 598-1466.

One of the most important aspects of taking care of the water supply in your Chattanooga area home and keeping your plumbing system safe is preventing backflow.  Truly, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!  Please understand that there is more to preventing backflow than just installing a prevention system once.

The truth is, if you have a backflow prevention system but have not had it tested since it was installed then there could be issues with it that you are completely unaware of.  You need to have  your backflow assembly checked and see if there are any signs it needs to be repaired or maintained by a professional.

The professional backflow testers in the Chattanooga area are the ones at All Home Plumbing Company serving the residents of The River City and customers in every direction.  Do not ignore a pending backflow problem!  Before it becomes a major disruption in your household call All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466.

Is it Time to Consider Repiping your Home?

It can be difficult to know when the cost and inconvenience of frequent plumbing issues become sufficient to warrant considering entirely repiping your home.  Only a trained plumbing professional can advise you on the best solution for your home, but in general, these are some signs that it could be time to start thinking about repiping.

Here are some obvious ones –

1.  Your home is more than 50 years old.  Father time is undefeated.
2.  Rust or minerals are building up in your water.
3.  Pipes are leaking in multiple places.

Depending on the size of your house, repiping may take anywhere from a couple of days to a week. Typically, it is possible to do the bulk of the work while you are out during the day, so you experience minimal disruption to your daily routine.  Call Chattanooga’s repiping professionals All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466 and get it done right away.

Are You Ten Years Old.

If you are reading this then you are a kid.  Your whole life is ahead of you.  However, if you are a sump pump you are in the waning stages of your life.  Ahhh, the life of that hard-working, efficient, and damage preventing device that works without notice when the water starts to rise.

Here are some signs that it is time to replace your sump pump –

1.  Simply the age of the device
2.  There is no water in the sump pit
3.  It’s making excessive noise
4.  Constantly running

Even the greatest most durable sump pump ever made can only last so long.  Make sure that yours is operating at full capacity this summer.  For sump pump replacement in the Chattanooga area call the plumbing professionals at All Home Plumbing.  They will give you a brand new decade of peace of mind.  That number is (423) 598-1466.

How Old is your Home?

Have you gradually taken the infrastructure of your home for granted as the years have gone by?  Many Chattanooga area homeowners can forget how old their homes are getting.  Just as an example, a home built in the mid-1960s is now more than 50 years old, and houses of that age can often present a host of headaches!

Galvanized piping can often be a culprit.  They are found in –

1.  Pipe bellies
2.  Sewer lines
3.  Drains
4.  Any original fixtures

The point here is that your home may need some “plumbing TLC” about now.  For that, it starts with a phone call to All Home Plumbing the Chattanooga area’s complete plumbing service professionals.  No matter what the age of your home, plumbing emergencies will rear their ugly head from time-to-time.  Always call All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466.

Grinding Away.

Have you ever heard of a grinder pump?  What is a grinder sump pump, anyway?  It is defined as a wastewater conveyance device.   Once the wastewater inside the tank reaches a specific level, voila…the pump turns on, grinds up the waste, and then harmlessly pumps it into the central sewer system or septic tank.

Just so you know, there are two types of grinder pumps, semi-positive displacement (SPD) and centrifugal.  The pump that is used for households around Chattanooga is usually between one and two horsepower.  The pump has a level sensor either built into the pump, called “sensing bells,” or attached externally to the pump, called “floats.”

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a sump pump expert because WE ARE!  We are All Home Plumbing located in Chattanooga and serving the area for many years with a variety of plumbing needs.  We specialize in residential repair and installation.  For sump pumps and many other plumbing needs call us at All Home Plumbing (423) 598-1466.

Gas vs. Electric.

It’s a question that homeowners have grappled with for decades.  Do I have a gas water heater installed or an electric one?  Depending on your local utility costs gas water heaters are usually cheaper to operate.  Understand, that they cost more than electric ones, but because of the energy savings they usually make that up in about a year.

The majority of gas water heaters operate with a pilot light.  They heat water even when the electricity is off.  Because the gas one’s heat water at a ratio nearly twice as fast as electric models, if you rely on a gas water heater for bathing during an outage it will be an economical choice.  Just one of several things to consider.

The choice is yours, the professionals who will help you make that choice in the Chattanooga area are the ones at All Home Plumbing.  All Home is a plumbing company that will troubleshoot, repair, and install gas, electric, and even tankless water heaters.  Give them a call today at (423) 598-1466.

Where is that Leak Coming From?

One day you are in your Chattanooga area home all warm and dry, the next you may notice that there is a leak coming from somewhere.  Maybe water is seeping into the walls or ceiling.  That’s a pretty good indication of a problem.  However, a leak in the pipes outside your home is a little harder to detect.

Here are some signs that you have a broken water line on your property –

1.  Your water bill keeps going up.
2.  The water pressure is noticeably lower.
3.  There are soft, even slushy spots on your lawn.

Do not ignore these signs!  The next step is a real flooding situation that can devastate your property.  All Home Plumbing of Chattanooga TN is the company to call in the area at the first sign of a possible leaky water pipe.  Wherever you are in our area, please remember All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466.

One and Done.

This is a phrase commonly used in college basketball.  A player can participate for one season at the collegiate level then go into the pros.  As it pertains to plumbers doing backflow testing this is definitely NOT the case.  A licensed backflow technician in the State of Tennessee must go in for re-certification from time-to-time.

Backflow certifications are valid for 3 years from the date of issue.  Each student is required to pass a written and practical (hand’s on) exam for the reduced pressure backflow preventer and the double check valve assembly (abbreviated DCVA).  It is an effective refresher program instructed by highly qualified professionals.

That is why when you call on the expertise of All Home Plumbing to test for backflow in the Chattanooga area you are calling on more than two decades of experience.  That inspires confidence…doesn’t it?  For any backflow testing that needs to be done at your home or office complex call All Home Plumbing at (423) 598-1466.

Who Do You Trust?

With loving respect to Johnny Carson and his first big break on television with the game show, Who Do You Trust, we ask this question when it comes time to hiring a plumber.  The right plumber for the job is a very important decision.  If you hire one that is just in it for the money you may live with regrets for a very long time!

If an auto mechanic got under the hood of your car and made a problem worse than it was when you drove in for service, you would be livid!  You would probably never go back to that mechanic again at the very least.  When a plumber shows up at YOUR home to fix a problem you want to feel like they are working on a plumbing problem in their OWN home.

That is the mission statement of All Home Plumbing serving the plumbing needs of Hixon and the Chattanooga area.  We believe that we are a plumber you can trust.  We will do the job entrusted to us and troubleshoot any other problems and simply let you know.  We are All Home Plumbing serving the Chattanooga area’s plumbing needs at (423) 598-1466.

When Drains Slow to a Stop.

The drains in your home are slowing down, next they will back up and then you’ve got a real problem on your hands!  Sometimes you can clear up the problem without having to call a professional plumber.  Specialized plumbing tools used to combat clogs are available at any hardware store or home center in the Chattanooga area.

It all begins with a good old plunger.  If the plug is further down the drain line the next tool you can try is a cable auger or a plumber’s snake.  Cable augers are available in lengths up to 100 feet however a 25-foot model will suffice for most household drain clogs.  You may have to rent an electronic power auger for the super deep drain clogs.

Perhaps this is the important point to remember.  If you have made repeated attempts to clear a clogged drain call a pro!  The right plumber for the job is one of the team at All Home Plumbing.  Josh and his team provide fast, efficient, guaranteed drain cleaning to homes and businesses around Hixon and Chattanooga.  Call them today at (423) 598-1466.
